Our History...

Camelot for Children was founded in 1987 by a group of local parents who saw the need for a special place for sick children.  The name Camelot was chosen with the hope of providing a pure and perfect kingdom where children could share many bright and shining moments and play happily ever after.

In the fall of 1990 after several years of fund raising, the doors to Camelot House were opened to the children of the Lehigh Valley.  It is furnished almost entirely with items donated by the local community.  The house meets all state and local requirements and includes a playroom filled with toys, books and games, a craft room, a kitchen and dining area and family rooms.  At the request of families, a playground featuring a large wooden deck where children in wheelchairs can play with other children was added in 1993.  The house is open daily for families on a self supervised play time basis.  Camelot provides a fun filled calendar of special events including visits to the Birthday Room, costumed Halloween parties and more.

Fifteen support groups currently are meeting at Camelot House to share camaraderie, discussion, information and understanding.  These groups represent children with cancer, diabetes, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis and other childhood illnesses and disabilities.  Most recently, a group for children who have experienced the death of a loved one was formed at a parent's request.

Camelot also serves the community as an educational center where seminars and programs are held to further the distribution of timely information and training.

One of our most popular programs is our Summer Camp where sick children can experience the joy of life while participating in outdoor activities that provide creative stimulation and promote friendly interaction.

To date Camelot House has helped over 500 families provide a warm and loving environment where children can meet and play with other children without self-consciousness or fear.  For parents, it provides a common ground where problems and concerns can be discussed with others experiencing the same feelings.
